SB NEWS @ AMSAT $SPC0803 * SpaceNews 03-Aug-98 * BID: $SPC0803 ========= SpaceNews ========= MONDAY AUGUST 3, 1998 SpaceNews originates at KD2BD in Wall Township, New Jersey, USA. It is published every week and is made available for non-commercial use. * 8P9JJ QSL INFO * ================== Bob, W2GG came through with the 8P9JJ QSL information asked about last week. Bob reports that Dennis, K7BV, is 8P9JJ's QSL manager. Cards should go to K7BV's home address. Thanks Bob! * SAFEX NEWS * ============== Mike, N1JEZ reported copying the MIR/SAFEX repeater during a 0042 UTC pass 1998-Jul-29. The SAFEX repeater input is 435,750 MHz, and the outout is 437.950 MHz. A CTCSS of 141.3 Hz is required to access the repeater. * LUSAT-OSCAR-19 NEWS * ======================= The LUSAT-OSCAR-19 satellite experienced a software crash recently. On 1998-Aug-01 at 17:40 UTC, the satellite was copied by KD2BD in New Jersey transmitting binary telemetry and status information along with an ASCII message containing the following text: LUSAT-1->AMARG : July 31 - 1998. Not BBS service. On Board Computer reload in progress. Digipeater active. Thank you. Norberto - LU8DYF. The kernel uptime was reported to be one day, four hours, and two minutes. * NEWS FROM HAWAII * ==================== Greg Greenwood, WB6FZH/KH6, in Kaneohe Bay on the Hawaiian island of Oahu would like to alert SpaceNews readers who use FO-20/29, and AO-27 that the Western passes that include the Hawaiian islands and large parts of North America have KH6 stations making calls the entire pass that are going unanswered. Greg reports and little if any activity on the these satellites in his part of the world. Greg also reports that AMSAT coordinator, Peter, NH6VB, is making lots of new friends on AO-10 these days with stations lined up trying to work him. In Mid-September, a "loaner" AO-27 satellite groundstation for Oahu Amateurs will be availiable through the Koolau Amateur Radio Club on Oahu, complete with antennas, a print-out of satellite passes, and operational hints. It is hoped that the relatively easy operation of AO-27 and the extra passes that do not include the "mainland" US will encourage satellite skills and invite interest to other birds and bands. Emergency Amateur Radio Club President Ted, NH6YK, and Koolau Amateur Radio Club President Greg, WB6FZH, are trying to use satellites along with other activities to increase the number of new hams in Hawaii. Ted uses a lot of manned space and satellite activities as part of his teaching at Pearl City, High School. Greg also reports voice QSOs on RS-12, FO-20/29, and AO-27. He's still trying RS-15 CW and SSB, but hasn't had much luck recently. * THANKS! * =========== Thanks to all who recently sent messages of appreciation to SpaceNews, especially: AD1B W4FJ WB6FZH/KH6 * FEEDBACK/INPUT WELCOMED * =========================== Comments and input for SpaceNews should be directed to the editor (John, KD2BD) via any of the paths listed below: WWW : http://www.njin.net/~magliaco/ PACKET : KD2BD @ KS4HR.NJ.USA.NA INTERNET : kd2bd@amsat.org, magliaco@email.njin.net SATELLITE : AMSAT-OSCAR-16, LUSAT-OSCAR-19, KITSAT-OSCAR-25 <<=- SpaceNews: The first amateur newsletter read in space! -=>> <<=- Serving the planet for over 10 years -=>> /EX
