SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-356.01 UPLOADS INVITED HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 331.01 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD DECEMBER 22, 1995 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-356.01 An ANS reminder, contributions to the archive of satellite-related files and programs available for anonymous FTP on the host FTP.AMSAT.ORG are very welcome. The rules: 1. It must be related in some way to the amateur satellite program. There are other sites for general amateur radio materials, and I encourage you to upload your general-interest material there. 2. The file must be freely distributable. 3. Shareware programs must be useful as downloaded, not so crippled that they serve only as advertisements for a commercial version. 4. I reserve the right to determine whether an uploaded file is appropriate for addition to the archive. The procedure: Use your FTP client program (not Telnet) to log on to host FTP.AMSAT.ORG. Use the standard username "anonymous" or just "ftp". Use your Email address as the password. Change to the /incoming directory (say "CD incoming"). If the file is not plain text, say "BINARY". Then say "PUT filename" for each file you wish to contribute. If you have a fancy FTP program, some of these steps may be automated for you. Then send mail to me, kb5mu@amsat.org, telling me what you've uploaded. If you have had trouble uploading in the past, please try again. I have reconfigured the FTP server to be more friendly to the standard procedure. If you are unable to use FTP but wish to contribute a file, send me mail and we'll work something out. Please note that you will be able to SEE the files you have uploaded, but you will NOT be able to download them. They will not be available , for download until I have moved them to another directory. Contributions of material for the AMSAT Web pages are also welcome. If you have anything you think may be of interest, please send me mail. ANS thanks Paul KB5MU, AMSAT VP for Electron Publications, or this bulletin. /EX SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-356.02 PAPER ON IONOSPHERIC TOPSIDE SOUNDING HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 331.01 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD DECEMBER 22, 1995 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-356.02 The first paper has been added to the premier edition of the IJSSEi International Journal of Satellite Engineering. The paper is entitled "Ionospheric sounding on a microsatellite" by David Palmer, CSER, University of Surrey, which may be of particular interest to the radio amateur community From now, papers will continue to added to the this issue. Visible passes should begin around the middle of December and continue through early January. Use your tracking software to see when and where to look for your location and pass the information out over local nets, packet, etc. Just one word of caution: MIR recently fired its rockets and raised its orbit slightly. Please base your orbital predictions on the latest available Keplerian data. ANS thanks Dave Mullenix N9LTD for this bulletin. /EX THIS LAST BULLETIN IS NOT FOR PACKET RELEASE 24TH ANNUAL SKN ON OSCAR All are most cordially invited to join in the 24th annual Straight Key Night on OSCAR, sponsored by AMSAT-NA for Amateur Radio satellite enthusiasts worldwide. It's entirely unofficial: no rules, no scoring and no need to send in a log. Just call CQ SKN in the CW passband segment of any OSCAR satellite from 0000 to 2359 UTC on January 1, 1996, or answer a CQ SKN call from another station. OSCAR Zero (The Moon) counts too. Of course, all SKN operating must be done with a straight hand key. Those participating are encouraged to nominate someone they worked for recognition as having the "best fist." To send in a "best fist" nomination, please address it via packet to W2RS @ GB7HSN or W2RS @ WA2SNA (whichever is closer to you), via the Internet to , or via "snail-mail" to W2RS' callbook address. Those nominated will be featured in a bulletin sent to Amateur Radio publications and posted to packet radio and the Internet in early February. ANS thanks Ray Soifer W2RS for this bulletin.
