SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-196.01 AMSAT PHASE-3D UPDATE HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 196.01 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD JULY 15, 1995 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-196.03 Phase-3D Status Report As announced in ANS Bulletin 182.01 of 01-JUL-95, it has been confirmed by ESA officials that the launch of Ariane 502, the mission on which Phase 3D is manifested, is now set for 29-MAY-1996 rather than 3-APR-96 as it had been. This follows a reschedule of the first in the Ariane 5 series, Ariane 501, from November of this year to mid-January 96. In other Phase 3D developments, a recent trip by Dick Jansson (WD4FAB) AMSAT-NA' Vice President for Engineering and Lou McFadin (W5DID) Integ- ration Laboratory Manager to Marburg has resulted in the exchange of much valuable information. For example, all necessary data to complete the wiring harness is now in hand. That task will move into high gear just as soon as the propulsion plumbing, now in the final stage of fabrication, is completed. In other news, Peter Guelzow (DB2OS) has just returned home from a trip to Tucson, Arizona where he spent an intensive ten days with Lyle Johnson (WA7GXD) and Chuck Green (N0ADI). This visit resulted in significant accomplishments in the finalization of the flight version of the IHU and the CAN Buss. In Lyle's words, "We have now completely built five engineering IHU units and tested them including the CAN bus." He con- tinued, "This [the CAN] is a small circuit board that can be placed in various locations in Phase 3D to gather data (such as temperatures) and also provide control of various devices." He concluded, "It was recently learned that Motorola would be able to supply the 16 processor chips for the CAN boards and will do so at no cost to AMSAT." [The AMSAT News Service (ANS) would like to thank Dick Jansson (WD4FAB), Lou McFadin (W5DID), and Lyle Johnson (WA7GXD) for this information.] /EX SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-196.02 WEEKLY OSCAR STATUS REPORTS HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 196.02 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD JULY 15, 1995 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-196.02 Weekly OSCAR Status Reports: 15-JUL-95 AO-13: Current Transponder Operating Schedule: L QST *** AO-13 TRANSPONDER SCHEDULE *** 1995 May 22 - Jul 31 Mode-B : MA 0 to MA 70 | Omnis : MA 230 to MA 25 Mode-BS : MA 70 to MA 110 | Mode-S : MA 110 to MA 112 |<- S beacon only Mode-S : MA 112 to MA 135 |<- S transponder; B trsp. is OFF Mode-S : MA 135 to MA 140 |<- S beacon only Mode-BS : MA 140 to MA 180 | Alon/Alat 180/0 Mode-B : MA 180 to MA 256 | Move to attitude 225/0, Jul 31 Note: The Mode-B beacon is ON during the Mode-S transponder operations only. [G3RUH/DB2OS/VK5AGR] AO-10: AO-10 continues to provide good DX opportunities: On 11-July-95 YI1BGD, Sermed in Baghdad was heard with a strong signal on the downlink. [N2CQR/HI8] MIR: Astronaut Norm Thagard has returned to Earth, thus ending a very active period of ham activity on Russian space station. During the rendevous and docking with the Space Shuttle Atlantis, observers in north- ern latitudes were treated to sights of the the two spacecraft approaching. The joined MIR-Atlantis complex was sighted from the Dominican Republic by N2CQR/HI8. [N2CQR/HI8] SAREX: N2NRD worked KC5FVF (STS-70) on 14-JUL-95 at 14:00 UTC. Uplink was on 145.950 MHz. Contest style with about 20 stations worked before LOS over the Atlantic. Good signals for this low elevation pass. [N2NRD] The AMSAT NEWS Service (ANS) NEEDS YOUR HELP! The ANS looking for volun- teers to contribute weekly OSCAR status reports. If you have a favorite OSCAR which you work on a regular basis and would like to contribute to this weekly bulletin, please send your observations to WD0HHU at his CompuServe address of 70524,2272, on INTERNET at wd0hhu@amsat.org, or to his local packet BBS in the Denver, CO area, WD0HHU @ N0QCU. Also, if you find that the current set of orbital elements are not generating the correct AOS/LOS times at your QTH, PLEASE INCLUDE THAT INFORMATION AS WELL. The information you provide will be of value to all OSCAR enthusiasts. /EX
