This year's Colloquium will be divided into the following topic areas: Spacecraft Engineering, Future Space Missions, Operations and Associated Amateur Space Activities. Papers addressing any aspect of these topics are sought for this event. In addition, this year we are conducting a series of hands-on workshops to run during the event. Material suitable for presentation in the workshop series is also hereby solicited. While workshop presenters are not expected to submit a formal paper of their presentation, outlines and presentation notes would be welcomed for inclusion into the Colloquium proceedings. Authors (or presenters) should submit abstracts to arrive no later than 15-MAY-95 with papers in final form (camera ready or on disk) to arrive no later than 15-JUN-95. Abstracts should be sent to: Doug Loughmiller, G0SYX AMSAT-UK Colloquium Programme Chairman University of Surrey Centre for Satellite Engineering Research Guildford, Surrey GU2 5XH England Submissions can also be made to the programme chairman via fax on: +44 01483 259503 or via the Internet to: D.Loughmiller@ee.surrey.ac.uk. Abstracts and papers should only be sent to the addresses listed above. The AMSAT-UK Colloquium is the largest international gathering of amateur satellite enthusiasts and experts in the world and has established a high standard of quality presentations on topics relevant to the amateur satellite community. The 10th AMSAT-UK colloquium promises to be the most informative and entertaining event yet. We look forward to your participation in this year's Colloquium. See you in Surrey! /EX SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-105.02 STS-71 SAREX FREQUENCIES HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 105.02 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD APRIL 15, 1995 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-105.02 Frequencies For STS-71 Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment (SAREX) Mission Space Shuttle flight STS-71, tentatively scheduled for June 1995 will be the first Shuttle-MIR docking mission. Since both SAREX and the MIR amateur radio station are expected to be operational throughout this flight and since the two vehicles share the same downlink frequency, 145.55, downlink frequency contention between the MIR radio station and SAREX would be expected. Because of this and lessons learned from using the current complement of SAREX frequencies, the SAREX Working Group have made the following frequency changes for the STS-71 mission. The STS-71 frequencies were chosen after much deliberation to minimize contention between SAREX, MIR and terrestrial-based 2M users. In addition, these frequencies are being strongly considered for future SAREX missions. If you have any comments, please direct them to AMSAT via Frank Bauer, KA3HDO (at his callbook address) or to the Educational Activities Department at ARRL Headquarters. We appreciate the cooperation of all amateurs in making the SAREX operations successful. Most SAREX operations are split-frequency. One frequency is used for "downlink" (the astronauts transmit to Earth stations) and a separate frequency is used for the "uplink" (Earth stations transmit to the astronauts). STS-71 Voice Frequencies The following frequencies are used for two-way voice communications with the Shuttle astronauts. Downlink: 145.84 MHz Worldwide Uplinks: 144.45, 144.47 Worldwide Note: The crew will not favor any specific uplink frequency, so your ability to communicate with SAREX will be the "luck of the draw." For all operations, Earth stations should listen to the downlink frequency and transmit only when the Shuttle is in range and the astronauts are on the air. Listen for any instructions from the astronauts as to specific uplink frequencies in use during the current pass. In addition, listen to the uplink frequencies before transmitting to avoid interference to other users. Please note that there is a strong chance that the STS-70 SAREX mission will fly before STS-71. If so, STS-70 will use the regular SAREX frequency complement. [The AMSAT News Service (ANS) would like to thank Frank Bauer (KA3HDO) of the SAREX Working Group for contributing this bulletin item.] /EX SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-105.03 WEEKLY OSCAR STATUS REPORTS HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 105.03 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD APRIL 15, 1995 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-105.03 Weekly OSCAR Status Reports: 15-APR-95 AO-13: Current Transponder Operating Schedule: The Mode Schedule from 20-FEB-95 until 22-MAY-95 will be: Mode-B : MA 0 to MA 190 |Omnis : MA 250 to MA 140 Mode-BS : MA 190 to MA 218 | Mode-S : MA 218 to MA 220 |<- S beacon only Mode-S : MA 220 to MA 230 |<- S transponder; B trsp. is OFF Mode-B : MA 230 to MA 256 | Blon/Blat 230/0 Note: The Mode-B beacon is ON during the Mode-S transponder operations only. [G3RUH/DB2OS/VK5AGR] MIR: The MIR current crew is very busy, rebuilding the Mir station to accomodate the docking of the shuttle in July. Two solar arrays need to be moved to the opposide of the station and new arrays that arrived in space Sunday will also be installed. The Personal Messaging System (PMS) is broken; the crew did try to allow a friend in Australa to attempt to connect this week, but the PMS did not acknowledg the packet. Voice activ- ity is limited to "off-hours" only. About 1 hour every few days, plus Sundays. There are a few hams working with the Mir crew, that are trying to get the PMS working again. But the PMS has a very low priority at this time. The ANS looking for volun- teers to contribute weekly OSCAR status reports. If you have a favorite OSCAR which you work on a regular basis and would like to contribute to this weekly bulletin, please send your observations to WD0HHU at his CompuServe address of 70524,2272, on INTERNET at wd0hhu@amsat.org, or to his local packet BBS in the Denver, CO area, WD0HHU @ N0QCU. Also, if you find that the current set of orbital elements are not generating the correct AOS/LOS times at your QTH, PLEASE INCLUDE THAT INFORMATION AS WELL.
