SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-323.01 DOVE S-BAND HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 323.01 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD. NOVEMBER 19, 1994 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-323.01 DOVE S-band Transmitter ON Jim White WD0E of the DOVE Command Team announced earlier this week that the DOVE S-band transmitter has been activated. In order to do this it was necessary to slightly reduce the power of the satellite's 2 meter transmitter. The intent, WD0E said, is to adjust two meter power and duty cycle so as to enable the S-band transmitter to be kept ON. He cautioned, however, that this may take a little time. Furthermore, the S-band transmitter may be OFF at times, as the satellite's power budget is adjusted. Jim cautioned DOVE followers that because DOVE development is dynamic, no guesses can be made at this point as to how long S-band may remain in this state, but, we will try to keep everyone informed as things change, Jim added. In the meantime, DOVE followers are advised to check the two meter telemetry in real-time to see if the S-band is on at any particular time. The nominal frequency for DOVE's S-band transmitter is 2,401.220 MHz. Reception reports are welcome. ANS thanks Jim White WD0E and the DOVE Command Team for the information used in this bulletin. /EX SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-323.02 OSCAR-13 TLM HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 323.02 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD. NOVEMBER 19, 1994 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-323.02 OSCAR-13 Telemetry Available via FTP James Miller G3RUH of the AO-13 Command Team has announced that he has archived last month's Oscar-13 telemetry on our ftp server. It is available by anonymous ftp from: the ftp.amsat.org site, in directory amsat/articles/g3ruh under filename a013.zip. Note that it is a013, not AO13. James advises those interested in receiving this information to login, using the name "anonymous" and password "yourcall@amsat.org", (without the quotation marks of course). The file contains last month's telemetry taken off Oscar-13. Data is error free. Also provided in it are: README .TXT SPEC_TLM.DOC SPEC_WOD.DOC James further notes that the file is updated on the 1st of each month. G3RUH adds that the telemetry is displayable directly by P3C.EXE and similar programs. P3C.EXE is available via w8gus@amsat.org, w1xt@amsat.org, and most Amsat organizations. ANS thanks James Miller G3RUH for this information. /EX SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-323.03 EME SCHEDULE HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 323.03 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD. NOVEMBER 19, 1994 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-323.03 VE3ONT EME Schedule Mike Owen W9IP reports that the Big-Dish operation of VE3ONT will take place as scheduled, for both days of the ARRL EME Contest (UTC days November 26 and 27). There will be NO pre-contest operation, he says. While the group had hoped to activate 50 MHz or 10 GHz, and do some operating prior to the EME Contest, this will not be possible, Mike added. VE3ONT will transmit on 144.100, at full legal limit power, and listen between 144.100-144.110. Mike stresses that those trying to work VE3ONT should avoid calling them on their transmit frequency of 144.100. The group is especially interested in working small stations. Therefore they will "work through" the bigger stations as rapidly as possible. They plan to operate on SSB for about an hour at Moonrise and from time to time thereafter. Mike advises those who want to work VE3ONT on SSB, to please wait until they change modes. Everyone is asked to not request multiple QSOs, even on different modes, because this practice reduces the chances for small stations to work us, W9IP says. He adds that they will actively avoid dupes and that the QSO format will be rapid-fire, avoiding RST signal reports in favor of the "T-M-O" format. Mike emphasizes that VE3ONT will have no skeds, no "special" listening frequencies, and will not be available via telephone. W9IP advises small stations to delay their attempts until somewhat later in each Moon pass, to avoid QRM. This should provide OSCAR stations with a particularly good opportunity, since they have elevatable antennas. Mike concludes by noting that VE3ONT is not in competition with any other stations entering the EME Contest. Their aim is to work as many stations as possible in order to provide a taste of EME. operation ANS thanks Michael Owen W9IP for the information used in this bulleitn. /EX SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-323.04 MIR HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 323.04 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD. ANS wishes to thank MEL KA2UPD\kf2wn for this information. YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD FOR the month of NOVEMBER you have a NEW AMSAT NEWS SERVICE editor, W3QNS. PLEASE send all information to w3qns@amsat.org on the internet or to 76446,1615 on COMPUSERVE. I will be grateful for all help! The AMSAT NEWS Service (ANS) is looking for volunteers to contribute weekly OSCAR status reports. If you have a favorite OSCAR which you work on a regular basis and would like to contribute to this bulletin, please send your observations to W3QNS at the above addresses Also, if you find that the current set of orbital elements are not generating the correct AOS/LOS times at your QTH, PLEASE INCLUDE THAT INFORMATION AS WELL. The information you provide will be of value to all OSCAR enthusiasts. tnx, bob w3qns /EX
