Satgen287 Sat Education Groups by GM4IHJ 24th Sept 94 BID of this msg is SGEN287 Please use this BID if you retransmit this msg A sample of radio amateur stations and groups using satellites for educational purposes is appended below. For a much larger list of callsigns please see the regular Education Lists which EA2CLS provides here on packet radio. What has become clear in this exercise to answer the queries by F5DGQ and others, is that, information in amateur radio circles has been sparse but the situation is improving rapidly with the appearance of Amsat Educational News edited by KF6PJ and, the magazine being produced by the STELAR group. Several enquiries to GM4IHJ have asked " Please fix us up with a school in UK who can exchange data with us". Regretfully this is not possible with GM4IHJ spending more time at his friendly local hospital , than he does at home at the moment. So please make your contacts direct. Addresses of individuals and groups participating in satellite physics education via amateur radio are :- (i) Dave Reeves KF6PJ @ W6IN.#SOCAL.CAL USA Physics Department Chaminade College Preparatory 7500 Chaminade Avenue, West Hills, CA, 91304 USA (ii) Bill Pine , Science Department , Chaffey High School 1245 N Euclid Ave, Ontario, CA , 91762 , USA (iii) KG6EK 22 Charles St, Sunnyvale, CA, 94086, USA (iv) EA2CLS @ KC4MCQ.#PMFL.FL.USA puts out regular education bulletins on amateur radio packet (v) STELAR (Science Technology through Education links with Amateur Radio) 72 affiliated schools. Via Richard Horton G3XWH, 7 Carlton Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England HG2 8DD . What should not be overlooked here, is that there are a number of Educators who have set up terrestrial amateur radio packet stations in schools. Getting these groups to consider enlarging their activities to include satellite studies should be encouraged. So whilst it is appreciated that most Amsat members rarely if ever answer the couch potato DXers of the plug and play brigade who clutter the bulletin boards with their CQ @ WWW's, perhaps it would be worth our while to talk to the schools seeking CQ contacts. Indeed if the schools using the bulletin boards could indicate the Educational nature of their requests for replies by using say "CQEDUC" in place of plain "CQ", it might be easier for those likely to give useful replies to schools to distinguish the educational Wheat from the DX couch potato chaff. 73 de GM4IHJ @ GB7SAN
