Satgen86 Are you ready for RM-1 By GM4IHJ 20th Nov 90 If we are lucky a Soviet Geological survey satellite should launch from Plesetsk ? in the Soviet Arctic, sometime between the 21st and 26th of November 90. Russian say 21st , Germans say 24th. There will be a Russian launch net on 14.280MHz SSB. Hitching a ride aboard this big satellite will be amateur radio satellite RM-1 hopefully to become RS14 Oscar 21. RM-1 features two major modes:- 1. A genuine Oscar 7 type Mode B transponder for CW and SSB 2. The German Rudak-2 digital communications package. At launch telemetry will be CW on 145.822 and 145.948 Telemetry on CW. The first number 6 indicates general mode, if it were 2 it would indicate command mode. The 2nd number 0 to 7 is the frame number and the 3rd and 4th numbers are the telemetry readings. Antenna RHCP down Oscar 7 was my favourite satellite. It reached all Eastern USA , and looking the other way it gave QSO opportunities deep into Asia. RM-1 will not be as high but its strong signal will sound very different from both the " Now you here it, Now you don't , propagation of HF downlinks, and the spin modulated whispers of Oscar 13. It is exactly the right satellite mode for beginners and old hands. It is not expensive to equip for, and you do not have to be a high tech wiz to get aboard. Please report any telemetry you get in the first few days to RK3KP @ RK3KP. I am assuming a Plesetsk launch in which case it may be in range of UK coming south to north about 92 minutes after lift off. Good hunting and 73 de John GM4IHJ @ GB7SAN
