Satgen 7 Identity of Mystery Satellite ? 435.974 MHz Two of the trio of satellites qrming Oscar 13 on this frequency are now providing reasonably accurate orbit data , allowing identification of one of them. The 105 minute 89.56 deg orbiter is almost certainly the American Polar Bear Experiment (86-88A) , engaged in Auroral zone communication tests. It may transmit on several other frequencies. The 101 minute orbiters are now being switched off during the morning and afternoon, but one of them is usually switched on again at about 1500 UTC . These satellites have not yet been identified but they may well have nothing what so ever to do with the Polar Bear tests. Future Satgen bulletins will report experiments using the 105 minute orbiter as a Polar Ionospheric probe. 73 de GM4IHJ 15 May 89.
