Satgen39 28 Dec 89 Your Happy New Year on Amateur Satellites If you got some satellite gear in your Christmas stocking, there are presently lots of satellites for you to listen to, and to use for world wide communication. RadioSport 10/11 is using its mode A RS10 transponder and is audible in UK roughly every 107 minutes between 1900 through to 1200 ut next day. Its beacon is on 29.357 MHz and CW and SSB communication can be heard between 29.36 and 29.4 MHz. Heard at XXXX one day, you hear it next day at XXXX plus 30 minutes later . Presently Ionospheric conditions are very poor for the transit of the 29 MHz downlink, so be prepared for very weak and watery signals at times, and do not be surprised if signals sound "aurorally " rough. Uosat 2 Oscar 11 is sending excellent signals on both digital voice ( FM reception ) and, telemetry, audible in UK roughly every 98 minutes between 0730 and midnight. The 2 metres signals are on 145.825 MHz and the 70 cm downlink is on 435.025 MHz. Hear it at XXXX one day, next day at XXXX + 34 minutes. The 70cm signal is not on , on every orbit over UK. Oscar 10 is an excellent signal at the moment on my 5 element yagi pointing roughly south at the horizon. Oscar 10 should be a good signal between southeast and southwest of UK in the UK mornings up to about 0800 daily . There is no beacon. Just listen for CW signals between about 145.860 and 145.900, and for SSB sigals between 145.900 and 145.960 MHz. Oscar 13 is usually in mode B presently coming almost directly overhead UK. Its beacon is on 145.8125 MHz and can be recognised by the rum/rum/rum sound it makes as its noise is spin modulated about 3 times each second. You should listen for communications between 145.823 and 145.963 MHz in the UK mornings when the satellite is very high up in the southwest. It is also audible in the UK evenings around 2200 when it is low down just east of north. Its signal is not as good as Oscar 10's. So a good signal heard in the UK morning is Oscar 10 not Oscar 13. The presence of the beacon also tells you when Oscar 13 is present. Additional forthcoming attractions are :- NA Pacsat 435.07 , Lusat 435.15 ,Webersat 435.1 , Brasilsat 145.97, and Uosat D and E 435.07 MHz all due to launch 9/10 Jan 90 . If Arianspace stick to the launch programme these birds should be audible in UK at about 0910 ut next morning and then every 96 minutes thereafter until midnight. On 23rd Jan 90, these pacsats will hopefully be joined by JAS1-B the new Jamsat Fuji Pacsat using a digital downlink on 435.910 MHz , it may also have an analog beacon on 435.797 MHz Hope this gives you a very happy New Year . 73 de John GM4IHJ@GB7MAC
