All the above HF satellite signals can be ionospherically propagated over very long distances in present Solar conditions. Eg Salyut 7 on 19.955 has been heard regularly in UK recently when it has been over the South Pacific. Soviet Space Ground Control stations continue to use 20.004 Voice, but Manned Soviet Spacecraft no longer use 20.008 MHz American Ground Control and Down Range tracking from Ascension Island is often heard on 19.954 MHz, and is very clear during Star Wars trials Shorts ... Meteosat is still sending strong wefax on 1691.0 but signals on 1686.833 and 1694.5 are weak. Polar Bear ? ? is still QRMing the top end of the Oscar 13 downlink JL. It is in a 105 minute period orbit. Astra now has regular sat TV signals on 14 channels in the band 11.2 GHz to 11.45 GHz. German programs will appear soon on unused channels. TDF 1 , the very powerful French Direct Broadcast Sat is putting out exceptionally strong DMAC signals on 11.72748 11.8042 11.88092 11.95764 and 12.03436 GHz RHCP. It is roughly 4 times stronger than Astra and can be locked on just using a corner reflector. Its DMAC pictures cannot be properly displayed on a PAL TVRO system - you get two bits of picture at the screen edges but nothing in the middle. Launched before Astra, it is only now being licensed for use by French CSA. 73 de GM4IHJ
