SB NEWS @ AMSAT $SPC0805 * SpaceNews 05-Aug-96 * BID: $SPC0805 ========= SpaceNews ========= MONDAY AUGUST 5, 1996 SpaceNews originates at KD2BD in Wall Township, New Jersey, USA. It is published every week and is made available for non-commercial use. * AMSAT-OSCAR-13 NEWS * ======================= The eclipse season has ended and AO-13's transponder has been restored to normal operation. The schedule has the addition of an S-beacon interval from MA 210-212 to allow squint angle/attitude determination. This will have virtually no effect on the northern hemisphere users. *** AO-13 TRANSPONDER SCHEDULE *** 1996 Jul 28 - Sep 02 Mode-B : MA 0 to MA 140 | Mode-BS : MA 140 to MA 210 | S-beacon: MA 210 to MA 212 | Mode-BS : MA 212 to MA 240 | Mode-B : MA 240 to MA 256 | Alon/Alat "220/0" Omnis : MA 250 to MA 140 | Move to attitude 180/0, Sep 02-??? The higher powered engineering beacon 145.985 MHz is currently ON for two periods: MA 250-40 and MA 160-170. The command team is currently discussing using the engineering beacon full time. Beginning on the latter portion of orbit #6220, AO-13 is undergoing a three perigee magnetorquing to lower the ALAT from approximately +13 to -10 and to increase the RPM. This change is necessary to maintain an acceptable solar angle during the next month. Users may notice an "warbling" of the transponder signal between MA 224 and 32 due to the magnetic field of the magnetorquer interacting with the transponder. Internet users wanting the latest AO-13 information should always check: ftp://ftp.amsat.org/amsat/satinfo/ao13/ http://www.amsat.org/amsat/ Telemetry is archived at: ftp://ftp.amsat.org/amsat/satinfo/ao13/telemetry/ The active command stations are listed below, and constructive feedback about operations is always welcome. At this time the following services are provided: Mail Alias service Permits a user to receive Internet mail using an alias such as callsign@amsat.org for convenience. Address Book By request, you can receive a list of all mail aliases. Mailing List services You can subscribe to a number of mailing lists to receive information relating to the amateur space program. Please follow this one simple rule: All administrative requests should be sent to listserv@amsat.org and NOT to the mailing list address! This includes requests to subscribe or unsubscribe, questions about the service, and complaints about the service. The mailing lists offered by AMSAT's mail server AMSAT.ORG provide a way for you to regularly have certain kinds of information delivered to you by email. The lists are divided by type of information. You can choose from the following public mailing lists: ANS - AMSAT News Service This mailing list carries official news releases from the AMSAT News Service as well as SpaceNews. These messages are posted in a form suitable for direct posting to a packet radio BBS system. Each message contains a Bulletin Identifier (BID), which permits the message to be introduced into the packet network at many places without resulting in duplicate bulletins at any BBS. The primary purpose of this mailing list is to distribute ANS bulletins for redistribution (via the packet net or on AMSAT voice nets), but individuals may also subscribe for their own use. If your local packet BBS doesn't seem to get the ANS bulletins reliably, you are encouraged to post the ANS bulletins yourself. Only authorized AMSAT News Service personnel should send messages to the ANS mailing list. AMSAT-BB - AMSAT Bulletin Board This mailing list carries general AMSAT information. This information may NOT be suitable in content for transmission via amateur radio, so automatic reposting of AMSAT-BB messages to packet radio BBS's is discouraged. The purpose of this mailing list is to provide a forum for general discussion of any satellite-related topic. Anyone may send messages to the AMSAT-BB mailing list. Simply address your message to amsat-bb@amsat.org, and it will be automatically forwarded to all subscribers to the AMSAT-BB mailing list. Editors of publications should ask permission of the sender before publishing anything seen in AMSAT-BB elsewhere, unless the posting was obviously a public press release. However, posters should realize that anything posted to AMSAT-BB is essentially public. KEPS - Keplerian Elements mailing list This mailing list carries official postings of Keplerian element sets for satellites of interest to radio amateurs. Like the ANS bulletins, these messages are posted in a form suitable for direct posting to a packet radio BBS. Keplerian elements are typically posted to this mailing list weekly, on or about Friday. Both two-line NASA format elements and verbose AMSAT format elements are posted. Only authorized AMSAT News Service personnel should send messages to the KEPS mailing list. SAREX - Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment mailing list This mailing list contains information and press releases pertaining to SAREX missions. This mailing list is very active during SAREX missions, and can be fairly quiet in between missions. To subscribe to one or more mailing lists from AMSAT.ORG, send a message with your request to listserv@amsat.org. Be sure to include your callsign (if any), your correct e-mail address, and the proper names (shown above) of the mailing lists you wish to receive. Your request will be processed manually for now, so the format of your request is not important. You need not be an AMSAT member to subscribe to mailing lists. Some further details can be found in AMSAT.ORG Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). REMEMBER: To subscribe or unsubscribe to any mailing list, send your request to listserv@amsat.org. For ANY requests or questions about the mailing lists on AMSAT.ORG, send mail to listserv@amsat.org. If you need more information about the mailing lists, send your request to listserv@amsat.org. Ask for "help". Additional information can be found at http://amsat.org or ftp://ftp.amsat.org.
