This will be a straight-sided device with no rim on the open end. This dish will be used to accommodate a design improvement for the flight model 1.2 GHz antenna for Phase 3-D. The new antenna design has a 46% larger area and 1.00dB more gain for L Band. This is also the maximum size dish that we can fit onto the top of the spacecraft for L Band. Anyone who can provide this material should quickly contact Keith Baker at "kb1sf@amsat.org" or Dick Jansson at "wd4fab@amsat.org" via E-mail. You can also fax your proposal(s) directly to Dick Jansson at 407-644-9782. The press release stated. "On Saturday 6 January the second and final qualification test (Q2) on the cryogenic main stage of Europe's Ariane-5 launcher was carried out on the ELA-3 launch site at the Guiana Space Centre, Europe's Spaceport, in Kourou, French Guiana. This successful operation, lasting 9 minutes 53 seconds, completes the series of hot tests carried out on the ground on the Ariane-5 launcher's propulsion units. This has cleared the way for confirmation of 21 February as the starting date for the first Ariane-5 launch campaign, with 7 May as the target for the launch itself (flight 501). The cryogenic main stage has been developed by Arospatiale, the stage authority, with the Socit Europenne de Propulsion supplying its Vulcain engine. The European Space Agency has delegated the management of its Ariane-5 programme to CNES, the French space agency." It is the second flight test of the Ariane 5 (502) that Phase 3D is manifiested. The first flight is to occur in May with the second currently scheduled for September. ANS thanks Keith Baker KB1SF for relaying this information. /EX
