SB NEWS @ AMSAT $SPC0710 * SpaceNews 10-Jul-95 * BID: $SPC0710 ========= SpaceNews ========= MONDAY JULY 10, 1995 SpaceNews originates at KD2BD in Wall Township, New Jersey, USA. It is published every week and is made available for unlimited free distribution. * MIR NEWS * ============ The crew on Mir is asking all Amateur Radio operators to please stop using the Mir Personal Mail System (PMS) for messages to other Amateur Radio operators on Earth. Please use the existing terrestrial packet network to send messages via packet. The Mir crew is currently relying on the Personal Mail System (PMS) for important Technical information, from specific stations in the USA and Russia. It is important to keep the PMS clear of messages from one Earthling to another Earthling, and messages to "ALL", except the Mir keps from N6JLH. The only other "ALL" messages you should see are messages >From the Mir crew. [Info via G. Miles Mann, WF1F, mann@pictel.com] * STS-71 LANDING STATEMENT * ============================ The Space Shuttle Atlantis returned to Kennedy Space Center on the morning of 07-Jul-95, landing on Runway 15 after spending 10 days in Earth orbit. This was the first of 7 planned Mir docking missions. The touchdown and wheel stop time are below: Main Gear Touchdown: 09:54.36 CDT Nose Gear Touchdown: 09:54.44 CDT Wheel Stop: 09:55.27 CDT [Info via Bob Inderbitzen, NQ1R] * STS-71 SAREX QSL INFO * ========================= The Sacred Hearts Academy Radio Club, Honolulu, Hawaii has generously volunteered to distribute the QSL cards for this mission. Send reports and QSLs to ARRL EAD, STS-71 QSL, 225 Main Street, Newington, CT 06111, USA. Include the following information in your QSL or report: STS-71, date, time in UTC, frequency and mode (FM voice or packet). In addition, you must also include a SASE using a large, business-sized envelope if you wish to receive a card. [Info via Frank H. Bauer, KA3HDO] * OSCAR-11 NEWS * ================= The UoSAT-OSCAR-11 satellite continues to function normally with a downlink beacon on 145.826 MHz NBFM. The spacecraft is under control of a "Diary" that uses software written in the Forth programming language. OSCAR-11's telemetry indicates the VHF and S-band beacons are currently active. The following is a brief UoSAT-OSCAR-11 satellite on-board computer status report received from UO-11 by KD2BD in New Jersey on 09-Jul-95: ** UoSAT-OSCAR-11 OBC ** Diary Operating System V3.6 Date: 9 /7 /95 (Sunday) Time: 20 :54 :27 UTC Auto Mode is selected Spin Period: - 363 Z Mag firings: 3 + SPIN firings: 0 - SPIN firings: 3 SEU count -466 RAM WASH pointer at 47E WOD commenced 25 /6 /95 at 0 :0 :6 with channels 1 ,2 ,3 ,61 , Last Command: 109 to 0 , 0 Attitude control initiated, mode 3 The VHF beacon also carries AMSAT-UK News bulletins in ASCII written by Richard, G3RWL as well as telemetry data from the spacecraft's many scientific experiments. UoSAT-OSCAR-11 reception reports are welcomed and should be directed to the UoSAT Command & Control Centre Centre for Satellite Engineering Research University of Surrey Guildford, Surrey GU2 5XH United Kingdom * WO-18 NEWS * ============== WEBERSAT-OSCAR-18 is currently sending telemetry information and whole orbit dumps of solar array currents. The telemetry channels being sampled and downloaded in WOD form include: 0x26: -X Array Current 0x27: +X Array Current 0x28: -Y Array Current 0x29: +Y Array Current 0x2A: -Z Array Current 0x2B: +Z Array Current Webersat is not transmitting any images at the present time. In addition to making telemetry transmissions, the satellite is acting as a digipeater with an input on 145.900 MHz and downlink on 437.102 MHz. Keep tuned to the PSK beacon for the latest news from the spacecraft controllers. * THANKS! * =========== Thanks to all who sent messages of appreciation to SpaceNews, especially: N2LXM CT3IU JA3SGR * FEEDBACK/INPUT WELCOMED * =========================== Comments and input for SpaceNews should be directed to the editor (John, KD2BD) via any of the paths listed below.
