SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-132.01 STS-70 KEPLERIAN ELEMENTS HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 132.01 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD MAY 13, 1995 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-132.01 KA3HDO Provides STS-70 Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment (SAREX) Keps The following are prelaunch Keplerian elements for STS-70: This element set is for the baselined 8 day flight for a launch on June 8 at 1420 UTC. However, if the Russian Specktr module launches on time on May 20, STS-70 will be shortened to a 5 day flight, launching on June 8 at 13:01 UTC. This element set is valid from post OMS-2 until the OMS separation burn following the TDRS deploy on orbit 5. The negative drag values are a result of the propagation fit through the 2.2 fps RCS separation burn one minute after TDRS deploy. The Houston AMSAT Net, originating in Houston, had lost access to the satellite following the announcement that the "Omega Radio Network" was ceasing its operations on April 30th. The Houston AMSAT Net provides AMSAT Bulletins, SpaceNews and other topics of interest to amateur satellite operators eachTuesday at 10:00 PM (CDT). Vern (WA0RCR) in Wentzville, Missouri will once again provide the net on May 16, 1995 on 1860 kHz and continue his coverage once the satellite service begins. KK5DO will once again be ready on INTERNET during the net so those that have packet or internet service can connect and check-in or ask questions. [G3RUH/DB2OS/VK5AGR] UO-22: On Saturday, 13-May-95 at 13:40:00 UTC G8TZJ reports that: "Those of us that track UO-22 will no doubt know that this bird has crashed in the past few hours. The problem is that this time the data that UO-22 is curr- ently transmitting is causing my TNC to lock-up, i.e., the CON and STA leds are permanently on. If you are tracking MORE than one 9600 baud satellite then this will prevent you from receiving KO-23 or KO-25." G8TJZ advises that you keep an eye on your TNC and take note of this problem. [G8TZJ @ AMSAT.ORG] MIR: Numerous reports of contacts with Norm Thagard using the call R0MIR are comming in from all over the world. Also, the TNC parameters have been reset and the packet Personal Messaging System has now been functional for the past ten days. FO-20: KL7QR had some success working FO-20 from Valdez to Tokyo this 13-MAY-95. He worked three stations JN1GKZ, JK1DVX, and JK1EXF all on FO-20 at 01:20 GMT 5/14/95. Signals were excellent, peaking at 55. KL7QR likes to operate at downlink 435.850 MHz. On several passes he noticed that he was the only one on the transponder. KL7QR notes that he only started working FO-20 last week and it has become his favorite Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) bird because the signals are so clear. [KL7QR] RS-12: RS-12 had a strong signal in Santo Domingo on 9 May 1995. The robot was calling CQ. Three cheers for the satellite's QSL manager, Werner (DF4XW). Werner is very fast in responding to QSL requests for contacts with the RS-10 and RS-12 robots. He also goes the extra mile by adorning the SASE with satellite images and science related postage stamps. FB! [Bill Meara, 74537,1100] The AMSAT NEWS Service (ANS) NEEDS YOUR HELP! The ANS looking for volun- teers to contribute weekly OSCAR status reports. If you have a favorite OSCAR which you work on a regular basis and would like to contribute to this weekly bulletin, please send your observations to WD0HHU at his CompuServe address of 70524,2272, on INTERNET at wd0hhu@amsat.org, or to his local packet BBS in the Denver, CO area, WD0HHU @ N0QCU. Also, if you find that the current set of orbital elements are not generating the correct AOS/LOS times at your QTH, PLEASE INCLUDE THAT INFORMATION AS WELL. The information you provide will be of value to all OSCAR enthusiasts. /EX
