SB NEWS @ AMSAT $SPC1121 * SpaceNews 21-Nov-94 * BID: $SPC1121 ========= SpaceNews ========= MONDAY NOVEMBER 21, 1994 SpaceNews originates at KD2BD in Wall Township, New Jersey, USA. It is published every week and is made available for unlimited free distribution. * SEDSAT NEWS * =============== Dennis Wingo, KD4ETA, SEDSAT 1 Project Manager has announced that a milestone in the SEDSAT 1 satellite development program as occurred. He says that the Mode A transponder built by Cynetics for the SEDSAT 1 satellite has been delivered to University of Alabama at Huntsville. He plans to put the transponder on the air for testing in the during the month of November to ascertain its real world operating parameters and conditions as well as to finish "infant mortality" testing of the components. This presents a possible opportunity for some interesting contacts. The frequencies of operation for the SEDSAT Mode A transponder are: Uplink : 145.915 - 145.975 MHz Downlink : 29.350 - 29.410 MHz This means that the uplink for the SEDSAT 1 mode A transponder falls completely within the downlink passband for OSCAR 13. In preliminary testing, Dennis reports that they have already heard OSCAR 13 mode B downlink signals on the ten meter output of the transponder. This give satellite enthusiasts the chance to work crossband through AO-13 and the SEDSAT test unit, provided tat propagation exists between their QTH and Hunstsville. This time of year, the winter Sporadic E (short skip) season just may provide such propagation. Exact dates for the tests will be released by the SEDSAT Team. This time +/-1.5h is valid for the next 10+ days. Expect the satellite to be visible in range of northern hemisphere stations, and add 11h and switch S<->N for another pass. Mike, VE2TRV, in Quebec, Canada has been translating SpaceNews into French for some time now. Mike reports the french translation called "InfoEspace" is well received and is now being routed on the Amateur Packet Radio Network using @FRANCA distribution, which means it is being routed to just about every packet BBS in just about every French-speaking country. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, Ruben, CT1ETZ, the Vice President of the Aveiro University Ham Club in Portugal, is translating SpaceNews into Portugese, and is circulating it around his country on both packet radio and Usenet. Ruben started translating SpaceNews after many of his fellow Club members and friends asked to see SpaceNews in their native language. My sincere gratitude goes out to Mike and Ruben for taking the time to translate issues of SpaceNews, and to all who help to distribute the weekly bulletins throughout their local areas. The feedback received indicates these efforts are well appreciated by all. * THANKS! * =========== Thanks to all who sent messages of appreciation for SpaceNews, especially: OZ2USA G4PFE N5EM K8LIX V51DM * FEEDBACK/INPUT WELCOMED * =========================== Mail to SpaceNews should be directed to the editor (John, KD2BD) via any of the following paths: FAX : 1-908-747-7107 PACKET : KD2BD @ N2KZH.NJ.USA.NA INTERNET : magliaco@pilot.njin.net SATELLITE : AMSAT-OSCAR-16, LUSAT-OSCAR-19, FUJI-OSCAR-20 MAIL : John A.
