Satgen 142 WHICH SATELLITE - WHAT EQUIPMENT ? by GM4IHJ 15 Dec 91 My mail tells me an update is necessary . So, Antennas first, then Tx (minimum power) and Rx, Then where necessary modems , TNCs and software :- RS 10/11 2m up via a 5 element yagi Az trainable. 10m down on a sloped dipole , Any 2m SSB Tx 10 watts, any 10m SSB Rx. RS 12/13 15m up on a dipole or whip. 10m down on a sloped dipole. Any 15m SSB Tx 50 watts. Any 10m SSB Rx. Oscar 10 12XY or multibeam 70cm, 9XY with preamp for 2m down. Antennas with AZ and EL rotation. Any 70cm SSB Tx 25watts. Any 2m SSB Rx. Oscar 11 Uosat2 Downlink only on 2m using 5XY trainable to any 2M FM Rx plus any suitable telemetry decoder. Oscar 13 Mode B as for Oscar 10 Mode J antennas and Tx Rx as for Oscar 10 but frequencies reversed. Eg 2m up 70 cms down. Mode L 23 cm pair of 20 element loop yagis uplink and 70cms 12XY or multibeam downlink, both with AZ and EL rotation. At least 100 watts of 23cm Tx power SSB/CW. 70cm SSB Rx. Mode S 70cm up on 12XY or multibeam. 13cms down on 20 turn helix both antennas AZ EL rotation. 70cm SSB Tx 50 watts up. 13cm to 2m or 10m converter feeding SSB Rx. Uo14 or Uo22 Uplink 2m 5XY, downlink 12XY or multibeam both AZ EL rotation 2m FM Tx 25 watts with direct modulation of varactor. 70cm FM Rx with 20Khz bandwidth and output direct from discriminator. G3RUH 9600 modem and modified TNC ( TNC 320 and PK232 not recommended). IBM micro with PBG software or ATARI with PE1CHL.net software. AO16 , AO18 , AO19. Antennas as for Uo14. 2m FM Tx as for UO14 , varactor drive desirable. 70cm SSB Rx with AFC. G3RUH Fuji BPSK modem , a modified TNC with modem disconnected. Software and micro as for UO14.13cm down AO16 only ,simple helix to a 13cm/2m or 10m converter, modem /tnc as 70cm. Dove No uplink. 5 element yagi 2m antenna to any 2m FM Rx with any VHF TNC ( unmodified) and standard YAPP, PACKCOM or similar software to any suitable micro computer.13cm down as AO16 but weakly modulated signal only G3ZCZ WHAT'S UP telemetry decode software. DOVE NOT PRESENTLY OPERATIONAL Fuji AO20 Digi As AO16 but with simple software such as YAPP or PACKCOM Analog , antennas as for AO14. 2m SSB Tx 25watt. 70cm SSB Rx. RM1 Analog ,antennas ,Tx and Rx as for AO10 . Pre amp not essential AO23 SARA. Downlink only . 2m 5XY yagi to 2m FM Rx feeding any 300 baud Uosat1 AO9 modem. GM4IHJ tracking and Jupiter eclipse software For more detail see RSGB Space Radio Handbook and Uo3/Uo5 manual. The above comments are my own. Brickbats to John GM4IHJ @ GB7SAN
