Satgen64 Packet Satellite Review 19th June 1990 by GM4IHJ It is now nearly 5 months since Uosat3, Pacsat, Lusat, Webersat , Dove and JAS1-B, went into orbit. As of today their situation is as follows:- Uosat3 145.975 Up 435.07 Down 9600 bps FSK . Orbits near UK every 100 minutes approx between 0900 ut and 0100 ut daily. Strong fade free signal.Excellent screen copy but not yet fully operational. A digipeater is often available. No news at moment regarding Uosat Oscar 15. Pacsat Oscar 16 145.9 145.92 145.94 145.96 1200 bps FSK up, 437.025 1200 bps BPSK down . Orbits as for Uosat3. Reasonable signal copy but not yet operational. A digipeater is often available and there is an S Band beacon on at times on 2401.14. Telemetry is binary. Lusat Oscar 19 145.84 145.86 145.88 145.9 1200 bps FSK up 437.15 down on 1200 bps BPSK Manchester keying and or secondary downlink on 437.125 sending either 1200BPSK Raised Cosine modulation ,or short numerals morse. Not yet fully operational. Telemetry is binary. Orbits as for Uosat3, A digipeater is often available. Weber Oscar 18 145.9 1200 FSK Up. 437.1 down carrying 1200 bps BPSK Raised Cosine packet telemetry and pictures. The pictures come from either an onboard earth pointing camera or a 1.2GHz video uplink. Picture is packet binary and there is software to decode it to NTSC American standard colour TV. This software is being progressively modified and improved but picture quality is already quite good. Orbits as for Uosat3 Dove The onboard computer has a problem and this means that Dove cannot presently transmit its 145.825 downlink receivable on a standard terrestrial packet station. Dove is restricted to downlink on 2401.22 MHz until the computer problem is resolved. JAS1-B Fuji Oscar 20 145.85 145.87 145.89 145.91 Up on 1200 bps FSK. Down on 435.91 1200 bps BPSK . Fuji is operational with an active bulletin board, but it is plagued by several software faults and the destructive antics of some users. Signal is good strong copy with little fading . Fuji also operates in mode JA with 145.9 to 146 Uplink CW or LSB. Downlink inverted 435.9 to 435.8 . Downlink is marred by terrestrial QRM and by self qrm due to non linearity of the transponder, but this is the best mode J Analog communications satellite we have ever had - highly recommended for satellite DX enthusiasts. Cheap 9600 reception Change from Murata CFW455HT 6KHz ceramic filter, to CFW455F 12KHz in CB transceiver/Microwave Mod transverter combination now producing excellent Uosat3 copy. Have been using G4BMK's Audio Spectrum Analysis software on Lusat, Pacsat, Weber, to sort out Raised cosine tuning problem. It is very noticable that RC only prints when vital 3rd peak in spectrum at 750Hz, is present ( in addition to regular spectrum peaks at 1000Hz and 1500Hz). 73 de John GM4IHJ@GB7MAC
