Very nice Leroy Chiao talk at Fairview Elementary

Hi all,

Leroy's talk this morning at Fairview Elementary in Mount Prospect, IL went
very well with about 800 people in attendance. The school district's IT
people streamed it live as streaming video. This was the first time they had
ever done streaming video; they have come a long way from February 2005 when
they did streaming audio for the first time during the ARISS contact. I am
sorry if not everyone was able to connect; the school really did not know how
many hits could be done simultaneously. It seems that the max hits at any one
given moment was about 20 with about 450 total hits for the hour or so of the
convo. If you were able to connect, the picture was probably about 2 inches
by 1.5 inches; the IT guys did that to save bandwidth and allow more hits.

Leroy gave an absolutely outstanding talk complete with video and slides.
He also did a question and answer session with the 4th and 5th graders
afterwards. He and his wife Karen stayed around for lunch with the teachers. Leroy
was also presented the plans for a corner of the library that will be
rebuilt in his honor.

For those who were not able to connect, the school is going to have the
Quicktime movie on their website for downloading. Please check
http://www.fairview.dist57.org/. I am sure that photos will also be available.

Thanks Leroy for another wonderful experience.
