* Station Crew Begins New Year With Maintenance Work*
Expedition 10 Commander Leroy Chiao and Flight Engineer Salizhan
Sharipov enjoyed a long weekend of light duty to kick off the new year
aboard the International Space Station. With the exception of a few
daily tasks and maintenance, Chiao and Sharipov had some well deserved
time off Saturday and Sunday.
Monday, the crew spent a few hours trying to troubleshoot gas bubbles in
the plumbing of the Elektron oxygen-generation system, which shut down
Saturday morning. Two initial efforts to flush the bubbles out of the
lines were unsuccessful.
They will return to a full work schedule on Tuesday, including
additional troubleshooting of the Elektron and resumption of scientific
experiments.
