* ISS Crew Participates in Biomedical Experiments*
A large part of Expedition 9's workday on Thursday was devoted to
International Space Station biomedical experiments.
Commander Gennady Padalka and NASA ISS Science Officer Mike Fincke
participated in the second part of the Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasound in
Microgravity (ADUM) experiment, which uses ultrasound equipment in the
Destiny Laboratory Module
<http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/station/assembly/elements/uslab/index.html>'s
Human Research Facility
<http://www1.msfc.nasa.gov/NEWSROOM/background/facts/hrf.html>. The
experiment is studying the ability of minimally trained Station
crewmembers to perform advanced ultrasound examinations after using a
computer-based program. The results of ADUM could lead to widespread
applications in emergency and rural care situations. The crewmembers
also participated in Russian and European biomedical experiments.
In other activities, the crew conducted routine checks on
ISS medical equipment and routine maintenance on the
outpost's ventilation system.
