Astonaut Mike Foale successfully contacted students the
Back School, near Stornoway, Scotland, on Wednesday 17th
March. Many months planning by the ARISS group and the
Headmaster of Back School, Mr. John Maclean, went into the
full 10 minute contact made with Cmdr. Foale.
Mike had visited the school for a day last summer during a
holiday on the island before he set off for a six month
stay in the ISS.
This contact was via telebridge with station WH6PN in
Hawai'i.
Many thanks to Cmdr. Foale and the ARISS team for this
success. More information and a picture of the students
is available at

ARISS is a joint educational outreach programme between
NASA, AMSAT (The Amateur Satellite Radio Corp.), the
American Radio Relay League, the international partners in
the Space Station programme, and international amateur
radio organizations. ARISS offers an opportunity for
students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by
talking directly with crewmembers of the International
Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see how
Amateur Radio can energize youngsters about science,
technology, and learning.
