The ARISS team is pleased to announce that the next school
contact with the International Space Station astronauts
will take place Wednesday, 17 March between the ISS crew
and students at the School of Back (Bhac), Isle of Lewis,
Scotland.
This contact will be streamed over the web. Connection
details will be available tomorrow.
Some of the questions students plan to ask include:
"What do you do if you are ill?"
"What do you eat and drink?"
"How will you get back to Earth safely?"
Further information including streaming parameters and
student questions will be posted as it becomes available.
Please note, this NA1SS contact will be a telebridge
contact via station WH6PN out of Honolulu, Hawai'i.
Therefore, listeners in the Pacific islands near the 50th
state are most likely to hear astronaut responses to the
students' questions on the 145.80 MHz downlink.
"Back School is situated on the Isle of Lewis in the
Western Isles of Scotland. It is a 5-14 school in that it
caters for pupils from the age of 5 through to the end of
their second year in Secondary education. Its primary
cohort has two streams, one taught through the medium of
Gaelic and the other taught through the medium of English.
All the classes in the Secondary department are taught
through the medium of English."
ARISS is an international educational outreach program
with US participation from NASA, AMSAT (The Amateur
Satellite Radio Corp.), and the American Radio Relay
League. ARISS offers an opportunity for students to
experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking
directly with crewmembers on-board the International Space
Station.
Teachers, parents and communities experience, first hand,
how Amateur Radio and crew members on ISS can energize
youngsters interest in science, technology, and learning.
Further information on the ARISS programme is available
on the website http://www.rac.ca/ariss
