I think you may have missinterpreted my post.  My point was that anyone
with a PC and an internet connection is instantly an IGate.  (Just click
one box on their APRS software) And since anyone that would be
participating in the experiment will already have a PC (for logging) and
will probably use his fixed satellite array, then he is at home, and since
most everyone has internet access, it seemed the easy way to capture the
data from hundreds if not thousands of receivers simultaneously..

It sure eliminates A monstrous data assimilation task for the principle
investigator.  All he does is run AFILTER and there he has it.  A sorted
file of every packet heard on the planet in real time...  Of course there
would still be some manual reports, but no reason to ignore the hundreds
that would be live..

AFILTER.EXE is a program that will watch the global APRS stream and pull
out anything one might be interested in...
