MOSCOW - The supervisors of Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko
confirmed today he will be allowed to marry his Houston-area bride while
still aboard the space station next weekend.

The first space wedding will unite the 41-year-old space station
commander and his earth-bound bride, 26-year-old Ekaterina Dmitrievsome,
despite 240 miles of separation.

"As far as I know, it is planned for August 10," said Sergei Gorbunov,
spokesman for the Russian Space Agency, today.

The Pasadena bride, a U.S. citizen, has maintained all along that the
first space wedding was never canceled, but reports from Russia have
suggested that his supervisors would not allow it.

The wedding ceremony is to take place via a telephone call connecting
the space station with a Clear Lake restaurant. Malenchenko has deputed
a lawyer friend to sign the marriage documents for him at the ceremony.

The zero-gravity bridegroom will still look the part.

"He has definitely been sent a tailcoat," said Gorbunov.
