Another question would be as to how good the bmp picture was.  You can lose
a lot of resolution in the conversion process dependant upon how good your
conversion program is and on a jpg dependant upon what compression you are

I have some pictures on my URL below and have not seen any of the strange
coloration or apparent lack of resolution you have.

I've tried ChromaPix and W95SSTV.   They both appear to provide about the
same quality of picture.
