I must say that the TH-F6 is the best handheld for satellite use I´ve owned. 
Although it isn't full duplex it is possible to work the FM birds pretty 
well. The big plus regarding this radio is the SSB RX mode. It is the only 
HT I know usable to work the AO-16 in voice mode VHF-FM uplink / UHF SSB 
downlink. Additionally I have used the TH-F6 as the RX part to work the 
linear birds from my mobile station.

(note that I am using the handheld with the CJU antenna)

Some years ago I've used it with success in the AO-40. Here is a video of 
the F6 receiving the AO-40 with a DB6NT downconverter attached to a 60 cm 
dish:
