Re: ICOM 910

I think I read the manual wrong.

The 9600 baud menu option is for TX.

But what has me confused now, is setting this to 1200, does it do what my
icom 706 does, and affect the rx 9600 pin ?

I think what I have to do is

1. Set the 9600 baud option to "OFF" in the menu (this is only for TX)
2. Then 9k6 and 1k2 data will be available as normal from the 9k6 and 1k2
pins on the data sockets.

This would allow me to tx and rx 1200 baud on VHF (ISS), and rx only 9600
baud on the go32 and ao51.

What I found with my ICOM 706 is that it has one data port.

That data port, has two receive paths,

1. Striaght audio limited for a AFSK 1200 baud TNC
2. A second port that can be toggled as 9k6 (disc) and 1k2 (audio)

>From what I can gather, and am hoping is that the ICOM 910 does the same

Two independant data sockets, setting the menu to 9k6 makes the '9k6' pins
on both data sockets '9k6'

And regardless, the audio out or 1k2 port would remain the same.

Hi Andrew.

If you only want to RX on both ports, no problem
I would of thought.

One problem, perhaps though;
I believe you can only choose either 9K6 or 1K2
through the ports on the back of the 910.

You would have to take audio from the Ext spkr socket
on the back for 1K2 on VHF and set the RX on UHF
 for 9K6 reception.

Usually, you have to request files and list directories from
the 9K6 birds, if you want to make any sense of what's
on them.

You could use UISS for VHF ISS reception, but you will need
WiSP or PB/PG for decoding 9K6 data on GO-32 and
or AO-51.

The AG25 and or AG35 will work independently.
You will not need the pre-amp for ISS reception.
A mast head pre-amp is useful for 9K6 reception.

You will have to select the pre-amp to operate from the 910 menu
and then push the appropriate button on the radio.

I use a DSP2232, so no experience of the KPC9612.

Anyone else with an alternative ?

73, Dave.
