Hi Larry,
You might want to consider a helical. They operate over a wider band width
than other choices and might avoid the need for two antennas
.
I made the one in the ARRL Handbook 1998. It used the standard design, was
not difficult to build. 15 turns on 4 foot long wooden boom.It performed
well on the antenna range at the Amsat-UK Colloqium in I think 2001.
