Re: Kenwood D700?



There are some quirks with D700 packet, it seems to
have a non standard way if sending packet mail.  Itís
missing one Acknowledgement in the Body message
section.  This missing packet will cause timeouts and
disconnects in weak signal situations.  Of course it
will talk to other D700s ok.  You will have issues
sending Packet mail to non D700 TNCís.

The default audio levels are set a bit low.  I can
usually tell a D700 when I hear one.  The good news is
that if you surf the web you can find the engineering
mode and boot up and change the deviation levels and
make it just as loud as the other rigs. You have to
put a jumper across the Din connector and reboot, etc.
 There are 256 audio levels to choose from and I set
mined from 80 hex to a C0 hex.

I use my D700 connected to a KPC-9612 TNC.  The
results have been very good so far.  I only use the
internal TNC for specific testing projects.
