This is not always the case. For example, in 2001 the University of
Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) made contributions to
AMSAT in relation to educational assistance being provided on the
Microvariability ans Oscillations of STars (MOST) microsatellite
project. Such contributions are documented in AMSAT's financial statements.

For those who don't remember, MOST is Canada's first space telescope and
has been operating successfully on orbit since June 2003. Its radio
systems operate in the Space Research Service S-Band.
