Bob's rationale makes lots of sense, and not just for mobiles. It's a lot
easier to develop power on earth than on the sats. These days, it's pretty
easy to produce a powerful stable signal on 70 cm. in any mode at home.
One question: isn't doppler for an inverting transponder proportional to
the difference between the uplink and downlink freqs? If so, isn't doppler
for mode B the same as for mode J (provided both used an inverting
transponder)?
