Re: Why do satellites?
Why? Because its so cool!
Anyway, I think the real question is: "Why are Amsat satellites made this
way?"
I would like to see many HEO's and just a few LEO's.
I would like to see three amsat geostationary satellites working TDRSS like.
I would like to see all the frequencies below 400 MHz band abandoned.
I would like to see the S-band as the preferred downlink.
I would like to see that there are no Non-Operational satellites and that each
bird dies during re-entry.
I would like to experiment NEW things on the satellites like spread spectrum
(where is PO-34?)
With satellite TV, satellite radio and Iridium phones more or less inside
every house we risk being identified as antique things lovers and not
experimenters anymore.
The whole amateur radio, not only amsat, needs a new boost into innovation
otherwise the hobby will silently die.
I dont want to be lame: I have recently joined amsat and also have
economically contributed to the cause.
I dont have any problem with the current amsat policies but I really wanted to
put my 2 cents into this discussion.
Best regards
