Brian, the KR 5400 transformer has two secondary windings. One is 11VAC
and probably rated at just a few dozen of milliamperes. The second
winding is the one that runs the motors and is 26 VAC probably at 1.5
amps or so. Chances are good that the 11 volt winding remains OK, but
the high current winding has opened. Obviously a check should be made
that both windings are sound before assuming the transformer is defunct.
Most of us have give up trying to find a replacement but rather simply
replace the 26 volt winding with an external transformer hanging off
the back of the control box. Do not use RADIO Shack transformers! They
are simply awful! Try and find a decent filament transformer near that
rating preferably 2 amp or greater. Cliff K7RR
