RE: AO-40 recovery attempts?



A localized explosion took out SOME of the satellite's subsystems, but it continued to function on a limited basis until sometime in January of 2004, when it appears that one or more of the batteries failed in a shorted condition, leading to a buss undervoltage condition that rendered all remaining systems inoperative, most importantly, the battery switching relays.  The AMSAT-DL website's AO-40 page was last updated in September of 2004...
