New Amateur Experimental Environmental Satellite

For what it is worth, the Naval Academy is exploring
the concept for an Amateur Satellite dedicated to the
relay of experimental data from remote experiments
and sensors.

It would be a simple AX.25 packet relay just like
PCSAT, PCSAT2, and follow-ons, but would encourage
remote sensor applications too. Not only would
this continue to provide a communications relay
capability, but it would also serve to encourage
Amateur Radio Experiments and applications on that
channel that are not normally welcome on the
Amateur Satellites.
By having a dedicated channel, we hope this will
encourage a new facet of experimentation. During
the last joint operations with PCSAT-1 and PCSAT2
a test buoy on our roof was able to get in on every
orbit and with 2 satellites, we got many successful
passes a day.
If other schools are interested in building similar
satellites or buoys, let us know so we can share
ideas.
