Hi Zack
Hamsat VO-52 uses the Lithium Ion which is termed by ISRO as COTS means
Commercially available Off The Shelf  type.
This is first time they have used such an item which is not specifically
space qualified but picked up as COTS and tested inhouse and found them very
satisfactory.
Similar Lithium Ion battery COTS type will be used in the next ANUSAT  which
is the Annamalai University Sat project by students.
