You used the wrong connector. There are dozens of different N connectors
for every size of cable you can get. Go to whoever sells LMR cable and
get the correct connectors. They can be rather expensive for the larger
cables.
50ohm and 75 ohm N connectors are not intermixable as the center pins
are different diameters.
