RE: Graphical Satellite Tracking with Linux
I'm not sure if this might be it - I had one of those 'possible epiphany'
moments. I updated / upgraded my system and, as a matter of habit, I
rebooted. Just as the computer was rebooting, there was planet Earth in all
its glory with AO-10 in orbit. I wanted to say "wait, wait, I didn't mean it
!", but it rebooted and came back. Then I couldn't get planet earth again.
Then it occurred to me as I was driving home that I 'nano'ed' the
corrections to earthtrack.c and then immediately ran ./build and then
./install *while still root*. This may have caused my permission problem.
I'll rebuild and install as user when I get back to the office tomorrow.
However, I could be wrong. From what I saw, it was quite visually stunning.

This is just a guess, but I took a look at getDisplay.cpp (from xplanet),
and it appears that the error you're seeing is the result of a problem
with the X11 libraries on your system. (xplanet can't find then when
it is run.)
I would suspect your Linux distribution is broken, or wasn't installed
completely or correctly.
Again, not seeing it I can't tell for sure... it's just a guess...
