William is 100% correct about the benefit of mast mounting the preamps.

The need to make them waterproof always seems to be a problem.

In my experience it is best to keep the rain off them but allow the unit to
"breathe" rather than to try and fail to make them completely sealed.

It also helps a lot to keep the power on on a 24/7 basis. Generally the unit
will have a voltage regulator on board and the heat dissipation will keep it
nicely above ambient and therefore "dry".
