Hello Hal,
what CAT baud rate (menu Options)  and CAT delay value (aux. program
SatSetup) are you using?
I run the FT-817 with 38400 Bd. The CAT delay has then to be at least about
110 (see "Hints for Yaesu users". The text can be displayed from the SatPC32
menu "?").

After changing the settings restart the program.
