RE: Doppler Control Software with USB/Serial Adapter

seems as though some people are having trouble with USB - serial adaptors, I
thought Id offer my 2c worth..

1. These devices are probably aimed at the more popular market, such as
terminal & modem interconnection, that use fairly standard software, for a
data-comms need. If the hardware you're connecting to the serialport is not
*just* sending data back and fourth ( EG, it may also use the RS-232 control
lines in a unique way), then there may be problems, because the USB driver
may not be designed to respond in non-standard ways. It would be rare, and
certainly beyond the intended design of serial port use.

2. Software trying to control your serial-device (radio etc) may be
exploiting some of the more unique / lesser-used aspects of a serial chip,
or is not using the existing windows( or other OS) serial "driver". This is
especially the case for older ( Pre ~98 software). Your software will
probably not know that it is not writing serial commands to a standard
serial driver / chip, so it will be relying on the USB "driver" to be
correctly converting serial (control) commands (eg Baud rate, etc).

3. A good way to test things is to see if it works on the SAME PC, but to a
"normal " serial port.

Good Luck.
