I'm not sure you'll have much success by trying to modify the 455kHz section.
The bandwidth required is a little over 60kHz for 38k4, but the wider
filters are only available at higher frequencies.Also the 455k demodulator will
have values optimised for narrowand FM.
If you can access the I.F. at 10.7MHz then you can get wider filters for
that stage.
