I can get in with 5 watts with a 2 meter quarter wave on the car and
the whip antenna on the HT itself. I can get in with 50 milliwatts
with a clear line of site shot to the sat. Try a satellite that is
less busy, like SO-50 or AO-27. I find these easier to work.
