Hi Howard, G6LVB
Radio Hams is not people who chat to each other because by definition MOD
3044 78 3.34 created during the WARC 1979
"Amateur Service: A radiocommunication service for the purpose of
self-training, intercommunication and technical investigations carried out
by amateurs, that is, by duly authorized persons interested in radio
technique solely with a personal aim and without pecuniary interest."
In particular during the ITU Space Conference Geneva 1971 a new definition
84ATA was added to the regulations.
"Amateur-Satellite Service: A radiocommunication service using space
stations on earth satellites for the same purpose as those of the amateur
Service."
Now if SSETI projects are funded by ESA for educational purposes,
not for Hams to chat to each other it means that someone is considering
the Amateur-Satellite Service not by the above definition but by CB
definitions and AMSAT-UK should not help ESA and ESA should not
use the Amateur Satellite Bands for purposes that are different of that
of the Amateur Satellite Service.
