Vin Thomson, GM4ULS - Silent Key

I was saddened to hear of Vin's death. I always remember him as a very
healthy and active person, so the news came as a shock to me.

Vin was well known in the UK for his regular contributions to the
AMSAT-UK eighty metre nets, which were held three times weekly. He
sometimes acted as net controller, from his QTH in Bewdley (located in
the middle of the UK), where his call was G4ULS. He later became
controller of the Wednesday evening nets.

He eventually moved to Scotland to be near his son, and became GM4ULS.
IIRC problems with 80 metre propogation conditions eventually made it
difficult for him to continue with the nets from the new location.

I shall always remember Vin as an enthusiast for the digital satellites,
and was often amazed at the number of different satellites he monitored
each day.

Vin regularly attended the AMSAT-UK Colloquium, where he sometimes
chaired the sessions. In the later years, he made the long journey from
Scotland to be with us.

Condolences to Joan, Paul and family.

	 Clive G3CWV
