RE: Is anyone working on equipment for C-C Rider?
What current CC Rider communications protocol? We are still attempting to
decide what the block diagram of the package will look like. We are buying
pieces of technology to do an evaluation of the suitability to do the jobs
that need doing if our grandest wishes can be realized.
We are buying A/D's to do Rad testing to see if the SDR approach with these
devices is even feasible. Until recently, we did not know if we could fly
34 A/D's and not use 200% of the power budget for the package.
We are going to use your recent SDR offerings (I recommend everyone read
John's articles from QEX in the last couple of years) as well as the
USRP in order to build simulations of the transponder operations to see
what it is we think we can do.

I don't know the details of the current C-C Rider communications protocol,
but
terrestrial and space digital radio communication methods are generally are
very
different as there are so many objects on earth to reflect, diffract and
absorb
the signal. However, the proposed use of DSP on Eagle removes this conflict
and
it could also revolutionize earth-based repeaters.
If the amateur community starts using high-speed DSP in home stations and
earth-based repeaters, the same hardware can be programmed with the optimal
modems and protocols for terrestrial and satellite links. DSP could also
allow
mixing of analog and digital modes -- allowing everyone to use the mode they
want. With the right software, analog and digital modes could even
interoperate.
