I think what happens over time is that you realize which participants post
thoughtful and constructive ideas and opinions, and which participants you
put into your killfile. 

It's amazing that such a small number of trolls can have such a negative
effect on outsiders perception of this organization, but that's life on
the Internet :) 

Give it time, you will learn who to ignore :)
