RE: AMSAT Journal - REPLY -
Dave,
In response to your questions:
The complete Member Profile will be on the AMSAT web site in the Members
Only section, likely around the first of the year. It will contain all the
graphics plus a printout of the questions and the numerical and percentage
responses.
Regarding the response about satellite interest and the interest level in
GEO orbits: It surely does not invalidate anything... People, said what they
said, and feel the way they feel.. Now, many would know that while it might
be a strong desire, the cost of such a project would be massive, including a
very expensive launch, tremendous amounts of fuel to have to pay for in
weight-at-launch, not to speak of the ongoing station keeping
responsibility.. Don't confuse a persons wishes with the reality of
fulfilling those wishes..
The members selected were randomly selected from our membership rolls. If a
significant number of our members are not active bird users, that within
itself is a significant finding. They do however help pay the dues that run
this organization, so there opinion is just as important as any member's.
Regards,
Gunther Meisse

I'll throw in my penny's worth, Hank...I could not agree more..
Does anyone know where I can find a verbatim list of the questions?
The answers obviously indicate the gist of the question, but how exactly
were they worded??
After seeing the percentage of respondents to "geo" on page 15 of the
JOURNAL (I assume that means a geo-synchronous orbit) the percentage of the
responses to that question alone invalidates the entire survey. The
possibility that AMSAT-NA will ever launch one is real "pie in the
sky"!! How valid is the response of 54.39% of the 'membership' and 58.92%
of the 'control group'?
To whom were they submitted? I'm sure I'm familiar with 98% of AMSAT
members that are amateur radio satellite active in any way in the San Diego
area...I am also fairly sure that those active represent less than 1/4 of
those that are AMSAT members. Most of the membership that is not active
probably wouldn't know a LEO from a GEO...how many of those received a
questionnaire?? If they did, how valid is their response?

Disagree: I learn....
