Freeman,
I am currently using the Rohn HBX-48... 48 foot tower.. may actually be 50,
but I have a modified section.. I am not sure what I have for a top section,
but I am assuming similar windload ( 10 square feet in my case)
I currently have a Cushcraft A3S, M2 2MCP14, and 436CP30, and plan to add a
similar BBQ grill dish and DEM 2445LY for 1296. This, by my calculations, will
put me right at the 10 square foot load, negating feedline loading.
I have had the basic setup in the air here in Northern Vermont for the past 13
years with no negative effects, but none of my antennas have more than a
twelve foot boom.
The whole issue with the boom length is one of a twisting or tonsional
problem.. due to the lack of guys, the twisting moment can twist the tower
apart. You could add ( and I'm no structural engineer here, just a Yankee farm
boy ) guys on some sort of outrigger at or near the top to lessen these
effects, and probably be just fine. Not sure where you live, but if you're not
in tornado alley, I wouldn't worry about it.
Just my $0.02 worth.
73, Bob WE1U
