RE: digitally clueless

Kevin,

Just an idea, but when I worked Barry VA3BJD in the Prince William
Islands, he could have easily uploaded his log to a QSL Manager or even
digital photos to show everyone where he was. You can do this at
1.2kbps or 9.6kbps but it would take a considerably longer time to
upload and download these files and could even take multiple passes to
get a complete file.

These are just two ideas off the top of my head. I'm sure one can
surely think of many more. With WiSP, one could possibly put together
an email gateway to automatically deliver messages from those in rare
grids or islands. Just a thought...

Subject: [amsat-bb] digitally clueless

Hi All,
based on some other discussions I have had with people and statements
made
recently on the BB, I guess I'm clueless about satellite digital ops. I
have
been on our current batch of sats and sent notes, downloaded pictures
and
such, but to be honest anything I have done at this point could have
more
easily been done on the internet.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying to abandon all digital sats but I'm

trying to understand why we keep pushing about integrating this mode
into
future sats or why the speed push that requires modified radios with
modules
to tap off the digital signal sooner in the I.F. chain, and then the
matching
faster tnc's.
Sure its doing something new and pushing "our" state of the art in
this, but
once we get there what will we do with it?

Would someone give me some ideas what their plans will be using 56k
or
higher data rates and a bbs sat for? what do the visionaries in the
group
see this big pipe in the sky doing for 15 mins each pass on a Leo and a
couple hours on a Heo?

My guess would be if we could ever get enough bandwidth going we could
do
voip or something similar but is that it?
